Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday expressed deep concern over reports of the alleged targeting of the residence of Russian President Vladimir Putin.
In a post on X, PM Modi said, “Deeply concerned
by reports of the targeting of the residence of the President of the Russian Federation. Ongoing diplomatic efforts offer the most viable path toward ending hostilities and achieving peace.”
“We urge all concerned to remain focused on these efforts and to avoid any actions that could undermine them,” he added.

The statement comes amid reports of an alleged drone attack in Russia’s Novgorod region, which Moscow claims targeted one of President Putin’s country residences.
RUSSIAN ALLEGATIONS OF UKRAINIAN DRONE ATTACK
Russia claimed that 91 long-range Ukrainian drones attempted to strike a residence of President Putin in Novgorod Oblast, north of Moscow.
The country’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that the drones were intercepted and that no damage occurred.
However, he warned that Russia reserves the right to respond at an appropriate time and stated that “Russia’s negotiating position will be revised” in ongoing peace talks.
Lavrov described the alleged drone attack as an attempt to derail peace efforts and noted that the Russian military had selected targets for “retaliatory strikes.”
Putin reportedly informed US President Donald Trump about the incident during a phone call on Monday.
ZELENSKYY DENIES ALLEGATIONS
Meanwhile, Ukraine has categorically denied the Russian allegations.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy called the report “a complete fabrication” and warned against the use of “dangerous statements to undermine all achievements of our shared diplomatic efforts with Trump’s team.”
Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha also urged the international community to “condemn the provocative Russian statements aimed at derailing the constructive peace process” and stated that Ukraine only targets legitimate military installations within Russian territory.
INDIA ADVOCATES FOR PEACE AMID RUSSIA-UKRAINE WAR
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s X post comes as India has consistently backed diplomatic efforts aimed at resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
In November, Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal had reiterated New Delhi’s call for “sincere and practical engagement between the two parties through dialogue and diplomacy in order to find a solution to the conflict,” noting that this was not “an era of war.”
Earlier this month, Prime Minister Modi, during talks with President Putin in New Delhi, said, “I always told (world leaders) India is not neutral. India is on the side of peace.”
“We are shoulder to shoulder with all efforts of peace. We all should find the path of peace,” PM Modi had said.
Addressing a joint press conference with Putin, he added that India has “advocated for peace from the very beginning” and “welcomes all efforts being made for a peaceful and lasting resolution of this matter.”
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had also earlier discussed the latest developments with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, reaffirming India’s support for all measures aimed at bringing lasting peace to the region.
INDIA-RUSSIA TIES
India and Russia share a decades-long strategic partnership, encompassing defence, energy, trade, and diplomatic collaboration.
The two countries hold annual summits to review bilateral cooperation, and Russia remains one of India’s largest defence suppliers.
The long-standing ties have enabled India to maintain close communication with both Moscow and Kyiv while promoting dialogue as the preferred method to resolve the ongoing conflict.
During Putin’s visit to New Delhi earlier this month, PM Modi had exuded full confidence that with the efforts being made in recent days, the world will once again return to the direction of peace.
TRUMP SAYS HE WAS ‘VERY ANGRY’ TO LEARN ABOUT THE ATTACK
Speaking to reporters, Donald Trump, at his Mar-a-Lago resort, acknowledged he was informed by Putin about the alleged attack and described it as “not good.”
“I was very angry about it. It’s a delicate period of time. It’s one thing to be offensive because they were offensive. It’s another thing to attack his house. It’s not the right time to do any of that,” Trump said.
Regarding the possibility that the attack did not occur, Trump said,“You’re saying maybe the attack didn’t take place. It’s possible, too, I guess. But President Putin told me this morning it did.”
PAKISTAN CONDEMNS ALLEGED ATTACK ON PUTIN’s RESIDENCE
Pakistan also condemned the alleged targeting of Putin’s residence. In an X post, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif mentioned, “Pakistan condemns the reported targeting of the residence of His Excellency Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation.”
“Such a heinous act constitutes a grave threat to peace, security, and stability, particularly at a time when efforts aimed at peace are underway. Pakistan expresses its solidarity with the President of the Russian Federation, and with the government and people of Russia,” Sharif wrote.
While Moscow and Kyiv continue to exchange allegations, India has consistently advocated dialogue, diplomacy, and practical engagement as the path toward ending hostilities and achieving a lasting settlement.
Multiple media reports have reported the killings of tens of thousands of soldiers on both sides since the start of the war.
