Mona Singh is currently winning hearts in Thode Door Thode Paas, and life seems just as happening off-screen! After The Ba**ds of Bollywood* went viral again, especially the iconic Duniya Haseeno Ka Mela
track, the actor says her DMs are now flooded with memes and fan edits. In a fun exclusive chat with CNN-News18 Showsha, she opens up about that unforgettable shoot moment with Shah Rukh Khan, her sweet on-screen bond with Pankaj Kapur in Thode Door Thode Paas and the concept of digital fasting that forms the premise of the show..
Excerpts from the conversation:
The Ba***ds of Bollywood released a while ago but continues to get love online. What kind of response have you been getting?
It’s been amazing! My DMs were overflowing with memes of Duniya Haseeno Ka Mela. That song went wild again — it was trending! My team even told me, “Why don’t you use the song and post something?” I thought, okay, let’s go with the flow. I absolutely loved the response. It’s been very, very overwhelming.
Did you end up meeting Shah Rukh Khan on the sets when you shot that song?
Of course! He used to come to the sets. In fact, the day we were shooting Duniya Haseeno Ka Mela, he was there. I remember saying, “Sir, you cannot be here! I can’t do this in front of you.” He laughed and said, “Mona, what do you mean? You have to be professional.” But I insisted, “Not in front of you, please leave!” (laughs)
How was your on-screen relationship with Pankaj Kapur, who plays your father-in-law in Thode Door Thode Paas?
It’s a very sweet relationship. Working with him was honestly a dream come true. He’s a legend — we’ve all grown up watching him on TV in shows like Karamchand and Office Office, and of course, all his brilliant films. To share the screen with him was such an honour.
Any special memories or anecdotes from your time shooting with him?
Oh, so many! He used to share stories from his early TV days — from Karamchand and Office Office — and always had wonderful ideas and suggestions for us. There was so much to learn from him every single day.
You mentioned in another chat that you struggled with sleep once because of screen time. How did you deal with that?
Yes, there was a time I couldn’t sleep and I kept scrolling all night. I finally spoke to my parents and told them I wasn’t getting any rest. They advised me to keep my phone away, breathe, meditate, practice yoga, and just be mindful about what I do. They told me to plan my day better and not scatter my energy everywhere. That really helped.
Thode Door Thode Paas, created by Shiirshak S. Anand and directed by Ajay Bhuyan, follows Ashwin Mehta (Pankaj Kapur), a retired naval officer who realises his family’s growing digital dependence has weakened their bonds. He challenges them to go six months without gadgets — in return for ₹1 crore. What follows is a funny, emotional, and eye-opening ride through withdrawal, reconnection, and rediscovery. The series premiered on ZEE5 on November 7, 2025.
