Diljit Dosanjh has been nominated for the ‘Best Performance by an Actor’ award at the prestigious International Emmy Awards 2025. Dosanjh has been nominated for his portrayal of the legendary Punjabi singer
Chamkila in the Netflix biographical drama Amar Singh Chamkila.
Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the film delves into the life of Chamkila, who rose from humble beginnings to become a musical icon known for his bold lyrics and untimely demise. Released on Netflix on April 12, 2024, the film follows Chamkila’s journey from a Dalit Sikh family in Punjab, dissatisfied with factory life, to becoming a superstar with provocative lyrics that often centered on love and rebellion. The story captures both his meteoric rise and tragic assassination at the age of 27.
Diljit’s performance has been widely praised for bringing Chamkila’s charisma and complexity to life. The film also stars Parineeti Chopra as Amarjot, Chamkila’s second wife, and features a soundtrack composed by A.R. Rahman.
This year, Diljit competes for the prestigious Emmy alongside actors like David Mitchell, Oriol Pla and Diego Vasquez, making the category one of the most anticipated to watch. The nomination highlights global recognition of Indian cinema and the impact of regional stories on international audiences.
Earlier, Netflix’s Delhi Crime had made history when it won the Best Drama Series award at the 48th International Emmy Awards in 2020. The series, created by Richie Mehta, was a fictionalised account of the 2012 Delhi gang-rape case, focusing on the police investigation led by DCP Vartika Chaturvedi, portrayed by Shefali Shah.
Meanwhile, Diljit Dosanjh was recently seen in Sardaar Ji 3. Directed by Amar Hundal, the film also stars Neeru Bajwa, Gulshan Grover, and Sapna Pabbi, among others. It was released overseas on June 27. Next, the singer-actor will reportedly soon reunite with Imtiaz Ali for an upcoming period drama. The untitled film is reportedly set in the 1940s, during the time of India’s partition. Sharvari and Vedang Raina are also said to be a part of the film.
