Lucknow, Jun 23 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai visited the King George’s Medical University (KGMU) on Tuesday to enquire about condition of the persons injured in the Lucknow fire tragedy and wished them a speedy recovery.
Subsequently, a condolence meeting was held at the state Congress headquarters in Lucknow, the party said in a statement.
The tragic fire in a commercial building in Aliganj area on Monday left at least 15 dead, including students, and nine injured.
According to the statement, the gathering was organised to pray for the peace of the souls of students who died in the massive fire, and for the speedy recovery of the injured. A two-minute silence was observed, and prayers were offered to the Almighty for the peace of the departed
souls, it said.
While paying tributes, Rai alleged that the tragic incident occurred due to the incompetence and apathy of the government and the administration.
“Fifteen young students have tragically lost their lives. It is a heart-wrenching incident. The government must take immediate and stringent measures to prevent such occurrences,” he said. PTI NAV KVK KVK
