Sunjay Kapur's Dad Told Him Never To Marry Priya Sachdev, Have Kids With Her: 'Don’t Want To See Her Face'

Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband, late industrialist Sunjay Kapur’s family feud has taken a dramatic new turn. His sister, Mandira Kapur Smith, has made a startling claim — revealing that their late father had strictly warned Sunjay not to marry Priya Sachdev or have children with her.

Speaking to journalist Vickey Lalwani, Mandira shared that her father’s opposition to Sunjay’s third marriage was so strong that it created deep divisions within the family — divisions that, even afterSunjay’s death in June 2025, continue to shape the legacy of one of Delhi’s most prominent business families.

“Our father was totally against it”

Mandira said their

father had made his stance clear long before Sunjay’s wedding to Priya in 2017. “Dad was totally against Priya. He said, ‘He can never marry her. I don’t ever want to see her face. And they can’t have children.’ That was very clearly said,” she recalled.

She added, “Nobody in the family stood by them getting married. I did it because I love my brother, but for me, Lolo (Karisma Kapoor) had the children, she had everything. They should have made it work. She should have been allowed to have her husband.”

Mandira also confirmed that she and her sister refused to attend Sunjay and Priya’s wedding. “My sister and I didn’t even go for the wedding. We were very clear that we could not support it because Dad had said, ‘Do not get married and do not have kids.’”

“You don’t break up a family”

Going further, Mandira accused Priya of being responsible for the collapse of Sunjay’s marriage to actress Karisma Kapoor. She also questioned her upbringing. “I had known about them (Priya and Sunjay) since they met on that flight, and I wasn’t happy about it. Lolo and my brother were in a good place actually. Kian was born. My brother was obsessed with his kids,” she said.

“I think for another woman to not care about a woman who’s just had a child is in bad taste. To come and disrupt a family is in bad taste… You don’t break up a happy marriage, or even one that’s trying to work. Lolo did not deserve that.”

She went on to add, “Why and how would you come and break up another family? On what kind of upbringing and basis are those? What kind of a woman is that? Are we saying today in society it’s okay and we should say it’s fine? I mean, if anything, you should have said well away, knowing that these people are working on their marriage and they have two children. How can you come in when you have been divorced, you have a child, you know what it is to be a single mother. Why would you come and do this to this family?”

Sunjay Kapur marriage

Karisma Kapoor married Sanjay Kapur on September 29, 2003, in a grand but private ceremony in Mumbai. In the years that followed, Karisma and Sunjay’s marriage began to crumble. Married from 2003 to 2016, the couple shared two children – daughter Samaira, born in 2005, and son Kiaan, born in 2011. But their relationship soon turned bitter. Karisma accused Sunjay of mistreating her, even during their honeymoon, and of having multiple affairs. Sunjay, meanwhile, alleged that she had married him only for his wealth. Sunjay Kapur married Priya Sachdev after his divorce from Karisma. Priya had a daughter, Safira Chatwal, from her previous marriage with Vikram Chatwal. In 2018, Sunjay and Priya were blessed with a son, Azarius.
