Sunil Narine on Sunday (May 3) became the first cricketer in the world to take 200 T20 wickets for a single T20 side. He achieved the feat for his long-time franchise, the Kolkata Knight Riders, against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2026 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
The landmark wicket came off the first ball of the 16th over, as Narine’s sharp carrom ball beat middle-order Salil Arora and crashed into the stumps. He followed it up by removing Ishan Kishan, who mistimed an aggressive shot and was caught, marking his 201st IPL wicket.
Narine became just the third bowler to reach 200 IPL wickets, after Yuzvendra Chahal and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. With an economy under 7 and a career spent entirely at Kolkata Knight Riders, his consistency
remains unmatched. His two wickets helped restrict SRH to 165, giving KKR a strong platform for the chase.
Varun Chakaravarthy also took three wickets, as the duo together helpedKKR become the first team in the IPL to take 650 wickets in the T20 format.
In reply, KKR were comfortable in the chase. Ajinkya Rahane scored 43 off 36, and though he typically slowed down after the powerplay, Finn Allen’s rapid 29 (13) helped him to do that. Angkrish Raghuvanshi then put up a good 47-ball 59 to anchor the chase, before Rinku Singh put the finishing touches with a nice 22 (11).
“Very good game,” Rahane said after the match, before crediting Narine, Chakaravarthy and others for the win. “The way we came back with the ball. It looked like they would get 190-200. It would’ve been challenging to chase. But credit to our bowling unit, especially the spinners. They kept taking wickets,” Rahane said during the post-match presentation. Those small moments are really important, really happy with the win. The bowling unit has been doing really well in last 5-6 games. Credit to our bowling coaches – (Dwayne) Bravo and (Tim) Southee. Here and there you will go for runs, but as long as you’re clear in your head, that’s important. That win was important going into the break,” he said.
