Exit Poll Results 2026: The 2026 Assembly elections are set to end on Wednesday evening and the attention is now on exit polls – the first indicators of how the electorate may have voted.
The exit polls will provide early indications on who’s ahead in a fierce high-stakes clash between the Congress and the BJP in Assam.
Though Assam voted on April 9 for 126 assembly seats, television news channels and other media are legally barred from projecting exit polls results till the last phase of voting concludes in any ongoing election cycle.
What Are Exit Polls And When Will They Be Released?
Exit Polls refers to a survey conducted among voters once they exit a polling booth after casting their vote. The willing participants are asked who they just voted
for. It is aimed to predict the outcome of an election before the results are officially announced.
In India, exit polls are regulated by the Election Commission (ECI), which bans their publication until the final phase of voting is over. Media outlets and think-tanks can conduct them, but cannot publish the results until the final phase of polling is over. In this case, that’s today, April 29 after 6pm.
The official counting of votes and the formal declaration of the winner will be done on May 4.
