The Uttarakhand Police on Tuesday launched a probe after a video surfaced online showing two young men in traditional Gulf robes casually strolling at Har Ki Pauri ghat in Haridwar. The viral clip shows
them moving around the Ganga ghat in Arab-style attire.
The men were seen roaming around Malviya Ghat and the surrounding area at Har Ki Pauri, one of the city’s most sacred spots. The video caused a stir, coming amid demands to restrict non-Hindus from entering Ganga ghats in the Kumbh Mela area.

Priests at the ghat alerted their organisation, Ganga Sabha, which informed the police. By the time authorities arrived, the men had already left.
The men, who identified themselves as Habibullah and Habibi from Dubai, told the priests that they were social media influencers making videos for YouTube. In the video, Habibullah can be heard saying, “They can roam anywhere in India,” while walking around the ghat.
Ujjwal Pandit, a member of Ganga Sabha, said a search was launched after the report, but the men were not found. He added that the video appeared to be a deliberate attempt to disturb the atmosphere at Har Ki Pauri.
Officials said the police and administration are investigating all aspects, including the men’s background and reasons for being at the ghat in this attire.
Haridwar Senior Superintendent of Police, Pramendra Singh Dobal, said the matter is under investigation and further action will be taken based on the findings.
The incident comes amid recent demands by Ganga Sabha and the priest community to declare all Ganga ghats in the Kumbh Mela area, including Har Ki Pauri, as non-Hindu restricted zones. The Uttarakhand government is reportedly considering the proposal seriously.
