Elisabeth Moss is returning to Hulu for her next major role. The Handmaid’s Tale star is set to headline a new legal drama, titled Conviction, for the Disney-owned streaming platform.
The Emmy winner will also serve as an executive producer under her Love & Squalor Pictures banner alongside showrunner David Shore and The Handmaid’s Tale executive producer Warren Littlefield. The series is being developed by 20th Television, where both Shore and Littlefield maintain overall deals.
All About Conviction: Elisabeth Moss’s Role Explained
Conviction is based on Jack Jordan’s 2023 novel of the same name. Moss will portray Neve Harper, a defense attorney. According to the official logline, “Criminal defense attorney Neve Harper (Moss), a confident lawyer,
finally has her shot at a career-making case: a high-profile murder where the husband is accused of killing his wife by setting their home on fire. But when a mysterious stranger begins blackmailing Neve, she is forced to compromise every legal, moral, and ethical obligation to gain an acquittal – or else risk her dark secrets being exposed.”
In addition to Conviction receiving a series order, 20th Television has signed a development deal with Jack Jordan that covers his upcoming novels as well as original scripts. His 2024 novel Redemption is currently in development with Disney Entertainment’s International Originals EMEA team, alongside 20th Television, The Littlefield Co., Co-Lab 21 (also attached to Conviction), and Riff Raff Entertainment. His next book, Deception, is also in development at 20th.
Elisabeth Moss’ Upcoming Projects
Moss starred in The Handmaid’s Tale throughout its six-season run on Hulu. She received four Emmy nominations for outstanding lead actress in a drama for the show, winning the award in 2017. The series also took home the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series that year, with Moss sharing in the win as a producer.
Conviction marks her return to an on-screen role at Hulu. She is also an executive producer of The Testaments, the sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, which is set to premiere in April. Next, Moss will be seen in Apple TV+’s Imperfect Women, debuting March 18.
David Shore’s Projects
Shore is best known as the creator of the long-running Fox medical drama House, starring Hugh Laurie, which aired for eight seasons. Beyond Conviction, Jack Jordan is also developing a television adaptation of his novel Deception with 20th Television.
