Delhi Police have filed an FIR against a five-star luxury hotel on Barakhamba Road in central Delhi after a woman complained of falling seriously ill after consuming food served by the hotel, reported PTI, citing officials.
The case was filed after police received a PCR call from the woman. Based on her statement, an FIR was lodged under Section 286 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to negligent handling of poisonous substances, officials said.
According to the police complaint, the woman alleged that she suffered food poisoning after eating a meal provided through the hotel’s room service. She said she felt unwell soon after and sought immediate help, adding that she was in her room at the time.
A police team, including a woman sub-inspector,
rushed to the hotel and went to the woman’s room on the 12th floor. As there was no response despite repeated knocks, the door was opened using the hotel’s master key in the presence of staff, as per the complaint.
Police identified the complainant as a resident of Prasad Nagar in Delhi. She told officers that she had checked into the hotel on January 20 and was scheduled to stay there until January 31.
On January 24, she ordered food through room service from one of the hotel’s restaurants. Shortly after consuming the meal, she began experiencing severe physical discomfort, police said.
The woman was taken to Lady Hardinge Medical College Hospital for treatment. Doctors have kept her under observation, officials added.
A crime team later inspected the hotel room and collected evidence. Sixteen exhibits, including suspected food items and liquids, were seized, sealed, and taken into police custody for further testing.
Further investigation into the case is underway.
