Hangzhou Asian Para Games gold medallist sprinter Dilip Gavit added another yellow metal to his name, as he won the 100m T47 sprint on Tuesday in Aichi-Nagoya, to follow up his gold at the recent Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
Mohammed Morssinganakath bagged silver in the same discipline.
Gavit clocked 10.69 seconds to win the gold, while Morssinganakath took the silver with a time of 10.72 seconds.
China’s Kangjun Shi won the bronze, clocking 10.80 seconds.
Athletes of two or more classifications can be clubbed together in a combined event to ensure that there are enough participants.
Gavit had won gold in Hangzhou in the 400m T47 event.
T47 is a sports classification for athletes with an impairment in one upper limb, including an amputation or loss
of function at or below the elbow or around the shoulder, which can affect balance while running and performance in field events such as jumps.
Pranav Desai bagged bronze in the men’s 100m T64 event, clocking 11.96 seconds. Japan’s Kengo Oshima won gold in 11.39 seconds, while Thailand’s Denpoom Kotcharang claimed silver with a time of 11.78 seconds.
T64 is a classification for athletes with a below-knee limb deficiency who compete using a running or jumping prosthesis, as well as those with an equivalent leg-length difference.
Earlier, Preeti Pal, a double bronze-medallist at the 2024 Paralympics, won a silver in the women’s 100m T35 event, clocking 13.98 seconds in a three-athlete field.
This was the second silver in the ongoing Games for Preeti, who has cerebral palsy. She had finished second in the 200m T35 event on Tuesday.
T35 classification is for athletes with moderate coordination impairments, such as hypertonia, ataxia, or athetosis, often associated with cerebral palsy.
