Happy Birthday Shreyas Iyer: A vital cog in the wheels of India’s limited-overs setup, Shreyas Iyer, celebrates his 31st birthday today. The middle-order star, who was born in Mumbai on December 6, 1994,
turns 32. A fantastic strokemaker with an excellent temperament, Iyer has emerged as a match-winner for India at various stages during his international career. He has also been a terrific player for his teams in the Indian Premier League, having represented Delhi Capitals, Kolkata Knight Riders and now Punjab Kings.
Since making his debut for Team India back in November 2017, Iyer has donned the national jersey for 14 Tests, 73 ODIs and 51 T20Is. Currently out of reckoning from the two extreme forms of the game, the 32-year-old has been a stellar performer in the One-Day Internationals.
Iyer’s tally of 2,917 runs at an average of 47.81 and a strike-rate of almost 100 included a whopping 530 runs in 11 innings during India’s run to the final of the ICC World Cup 2023. He was also one of the heroes of Team India’s successful campaign at the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

Iyer’s ICC World Cup 2023 tally of 530 runs saw him blast two centuries, including a match-winning hundred in the semi-final versus New Zealand. He finished as India’s third highest and the tournament’s seventh best run-getter.
Iyer also finished as the second best run-maker during India’s Champions Trophy 2025 triumph. He blazed 243 runs in five innings at an average of 48.60 with two critical half-centuries to his name.
Not given enough credit for his Test performances, he scored a magnificent century on debut against New Zealand in November 2021 in Kanpur.
The Mumbaikar was named Emerging Player of the Year for scoring 436 runs in his debut IPL season in 2015 for the Delhi Capitals.
In 2024, he joined the list of IPL-winning captains by taking the Kolkata Knight Riders to their third title in the league’s history.
Iyer once contributed a mammoth 1,321 runs at an average of 73 in Mumbai’s run to clinch the Ranji Trophy crown for the 41st time. His tally during the 2024-25 season remains the second highest ever in Ranji history after the great VVS Laxman’s 1415 runs for Hyderabad in 1999-2000.

Shreyas Iyer’s Recent Injury Update
Iyer, who suffered a brutal injury to his abdomen while going for diving catch during the last month’s third ODI against Australia in Sydney, is currently in recovery mode. Scans had revealed that the cricketer had endured spleen laceration and internal bleeding.
He was kept under medical treatment in Australia before being discharged upon recovery to undergo a further rehab period at the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. Having been ruled out of the fixtures versus South Africa, the Indian vice-captain should be back for India’s next ODI assignment against New Zealand in January.
