As West Bengal heads to polling in phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting on May 4, election authorities have outlined key guidelines to ensure a smooth and fair voting process. Here’s a checklist voters should keep in mind before heading to the booths:
Carry Valid ID
Voters must carry their EPIC voter ID card. In its absence, other Election Commission-approved identity documents can be used, provided the voter’s name is on the electoral roll.
Check Polling Details
Confirm your polling booth location, constituency and serial number in advance to avoid last-minute confusion.
Know the Timings
Polling is generally held between 7 AM and 6 PM. Voters present in the queue before closing time will be allowed to vote.
Follow Booth Rules
Campaigning is prohibited within 100 metres of polling stations, and no political
symbols or canvassing are allowed near booths.
What You Can’t Carry
Mobile phones are not allowed inside the voting compartment. Carrying items that could influence voters is also restricted.
Expect Security Checks
Polling stations will have tight security arrangements, including deployment of central forces and local police to ensure peaceful voting.
Special Provisions
Priority is given to senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and pregnant women. Basic facilities such as drinking water and seating are arranged at booths.
After You Vote
Your finger will be marked with indelible ink, and your vote will be recorded on an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM).
