Daryl Mitchell now tops the list of New Zealand players with the most ODI runs against India in a calendar year. The right-handed batter, who scored 84, 131* and 137 in the three-match series between the two teams in January 2026 and played a knock of 28 runs in the first ODI of the ongoing five-match series on Wednesday (November 4) in Auckland, broke the previous record held by all-rounder Chris Cairns to take the No. 1 position.
Chris Cairns played 11 ODIs for New Zealand against India in 1999 and scored 403 runs in 10 innings. On the other hand, Mitchell is playing his fifth ODI against India in 2026 on November 7 and has 435 runs to his name.
He needed 24 runs in the second ODI between India and New Zealand at Hnry Stadium in Wellington to go
past Cairns’ tally, and he scored his 24th run on the fifth ball of the 19th over.
In the list of New Zealand batters with the most ODI runs against India in a calendar year, Mitchell and Cairns are followed by Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor, who scored 361 and 343 runs, respectively.
