A massive fire broke out in a slum area near Rithala Metro Station in the national capital late on Friday, leaving one person dead and another injured. Soon after receiving the information, the fire department
deployed around 29 fire tenders to the spot.
The deceased has been identified as Munna (30), whose body was recovered from the fire site and handed over to the local police.

It is learnt that the blaze affected approximately 400–500 huts.
According to the Delhi Fire Service, the flames erupted around 10:56 pm in makeshift huts near the Delhi Jal Board staff quarters, Sector-5, Rohini — close to Rithala Metro Station. Under the supervision of senior officers, including DCFO SK Dua and other DOs/ADOs, robots and specialized vehicles were also deployed to bring the situation under control.
SK Dua said the fire was declared of “medium” category considering its intensity, and a total of 29 fire tenders were rushed to the site to douse the flames. After extensive efforts, the blaze was finally brought under control on Saturday morning.
“We received information that a fire broke out in the huts of Bengali Basti, located between Rithala Metro Station and the Delhi Jal Board. Fire tenders were sent to the spot… A total of 29 fire tenders are on the spot, and the fire is now under control…,” Dua told news agency ANI.
The cause of the fire is yet to be determined. Efforts were underway to douse the flames.
