New Delhi, Sep 19 (PTI) A woman arrested in connection with the alleged killing of Delhi realtor Yuvraj Singh Manchanda has told police that she had given around Rs 1 crore to the deceased, who had not returned the money, with investigators now probing whether the “financial dispute” was linked to cheating and other previous cases against her, officials said on Saturday.
According to the latest findings of the investigation, the sports utility vehicle (SUV) in which Manchanda’s body was allegedly kept was first taken to a residential society where accused Anya Vats lived on September 6, the day he went missing.
The society does not have a parking facility and allows vehicles in only for pick up and drop, with parking charged on an hourly basis.
CCTV footage showed that the vehicle was moved out of the society the following day and parked at a parking facility near the residential complex, where it remained till September 8, sources said.
The accused allegedly dumped Manchanda’s body in a Gurugram drain on September 8 and fled the city the next day, police said.
Vats and her husband, Sanyam Sachdeva, were arrested from Uttarakhand after the Delhi Police traced them through technical surveillance. Police have accused the couple of killing the realtor following a financial dispute.
Vats told investigators that she had given Rs 1 crore to Manchanda and the money was not returned, the sources said. Police are verifying the claim, the nature of the transaction and whether the money was connected to any financial irregularities.
Investigators are also examining whether the alleged financial dealings have any link to cases previously registered against Vats, including for cheating, the sources said.
Manchanda, Vats and Sachdeva had earlier worked together at a real-estate firm. Vats was subsequently removed from the company over alleged financial irregularities, according to police.
The police sources said the accused allegedly made Manchanda park his car before he got into the SUV that belonged to Vats. The details of how he was killed have not been officially disclosed.
The post-mortem examination was conducted by the Gurugram Police, but the report is yet to be handed over to the Delhi Police, the sources said. Investigators are awaiting the report to establish the cause of death and other forensic details.
Manchanda’s body was found from a drain within the Badshahpur police station limits on September 10. His family members have alleged that they were not informed about the body being found and that the unidentified body was cremated on September 14. PTI SSJ RC
