Dehradun, Jun 18 (PTI) A nine-year-old boy from Delhi went missing after being swept away by strong currents while bathing in the Ganga river near Haridwar on Thursday, officials said.
The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has launched an intensive search operation to locate the boy, identified as Kush Sharma, a resident of Rohini in Delhi. He is yet to be traced.
According to the SDRF officials, the incident took place around 3.15 pm at Gita Kutir Ghat in Raiwala area, when Kush lost his balance due to the swift flow of currents.
His brother Priyanshu tried to save him but also began to drown. However, locals acted quickly and pulled Priyanshu to safety, but Kush was carried away by the current.
Local police and SDRF teams rushed to the spot
after receiving the information. Divers have been deployed to search for the missing boy at probable locations downriver.
