Return To Men In Blues
Ishan Kishan had a brilliant Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) 2025/26 campaign, leading Jharkhand to their first-ever SMAT title. He scored 517 runs in 10 innings at an impressive average of 57.44, including two centuries and two fifties. He notably scored a match-winning 101 in the final against Haryana, helping his team secure the trophy.
Following his remarkable performance in the SMAT, Kishan has been recalled to the Indian team for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. He will serve as the second wicketkeeper-batter choice for the Indian side, following Sanju Samson.
“He bats at the top in white-ball cricket. He’s been in good form. He’s played before for India. He has a double hundred in one-day cricket,” said chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar to the media during the press conference to announce the Indian squad for the men’s T20 World Cup.
“He wasn’t in the Indian team because there’s a Rishabh Pant and a Dhruv Jurel ahead. They’re two pretty good players,” Agarkar added.
Suryakumar Yadav will lead the 15-man squad in the upcoming T20 World Cup, with Shubman Gill being dropped due to fitness and form concerns. Axar Patel will return to deputy duties.
Speaking to ANI, Ishan Kishan said, “I am very happy. Also very happy for my domestic team, Jharkhand, on winning their maiden SMAT trophy! Everyone played really well!”
