Pandya (63) blasted the second-fastest T20I fifty for India, while Tilak Varma’s fluent 73 helped the hosts secure a 30-run win against South Africa, who had set a formidable 232-run target in Ahmedabad on Friday.
In a blistering knock featuring five sixes and five fours, Pandya’s 63 off 25 deliveries included a 16-ball half-century, now the second-fastest by an Indian, behind Yuvraj Singh’s 12-ball landmark against England at Kingsmead in 2007.
Pandya put on 105 off only 44 deliveries in a brilliant fourth wicket stand with Tilak just when the momentum had slowed down for India, who finished at 231/5.
