‘Ram Lalla Adorns Mix Of Indian Fabrics Daily’: Designer Recounts Modi’s Advice For Divine Wardrobe

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday ceremonially hoisted a saffron flag atop the Ram temple in Ayodhya in the Dhwajarohan ceremony which marked the formal completion of its construction.
On the auspicious day, the designer of Ram Lalla’s attire, Manish Tripathi, recalled how PM Modi’s thoughtful guidance shaped the divine poshak.
On Tuesday, the serene idol was dressed in resplendent orange.
“When you are surrounded by darkness and find even a small ray of light, hope awakens. For us, that light was the Prime Minister’s guidance,” Tripathi said.

PM Modi’s brief was that the attire of the five-year-old Ram Lalla should carry both innocence and royal grace as the son of King Dashrath. He also emphasised that India’s cultural and traditional

identity must be woven into every part of the attire.

“He directed us to stick to Indian tradition in the design…For nearly 600 days, the team has been creating a new design with Indian textiles each day, drawing from India’s vast heritage. We have a traditional textile bank, which is never-ending. These textiles too have got a new identity while serving the Lord,” he said.
“We use textiles such as Karnataka silk, Chanderi from Madhya Pradesh, Eri silk from Assam, and textiles from Odisha for the dhoti or patuka in a beautiful blend of devotion and craftsmanship. It is a beautiful amalgamation and combination each day,” he said.

The Lord’s designer: The pran pratishtha, Ram Navami look

Tripathi is the designer behind uniforms for the Indian Army, Border Security Force (BSF) and jerseys for Indian Cricket Team.
Lord Ram’s attire for the grand consecration ceremony was the first task Tripathi undertook. While speaking to News18 then, he had stated that his team spent hours and days with sculptor Arjun Yogiraj to know his expectations. Other than the consecration day attire, Tripathi and his team spent 40 days to make the attire for lord Ram for all seven days, based on the colour scheme provided by the temple trust.
“Red attire is for Tuesday, green for Wednesday, yellow for Thursdays, green for Fridays, blue for Saturday and pink for Sundays while white is for Mondays,” he said.
“After pran pratishtha, Ram Navami was the first mega event for the temple. The look had to be grand. I thought of a combination of bright yellow and pink as yellow is a colour for celebration and pink denotes love, kindness and purity,” he had told News18.
He said as Lord Ram is an avatar of Lord Vishnu and is known as Pitambar, he chose the Pitambari fabric. “We got it made specially from the weavers of Kashi. Unlike the pran pratishtha attire, where we put multiple Vaishnav signs on the dress, this time, on his birthday, we only picked the lotus sign,” he had said.
