Janhvi Kapoor is facing severe backlash for her role in her recently released movie Peddi, co-starring Ram Charan. Moviegoers have been questioning the hypersexualisation of her role, and now amid this, actor Ashika Ranganath, who works in Kannada, Telugu, and Tamil films, has come out in support of Janhvi, saying, “Question the system, not the actor.”
Ashika took to her Instagram Stories and shared a post talking about actresses getting flowerpot roles in commercial films. While reacting to it, she backedJanhvi Kapoor, saying, “Don’t blame the actress. Blame the system and the makers who still think this is what sells. Actors often work within the opportunities available to them, hoping to be a part of bigger films and reach wider audiences.
If female characters feel underwritten, the responsibility lies more with the writing and filmmaking choices than with the women playing those roles.”
Peddi Director Reacts To Backlash Over Janhvi Kapoor’s Oversexualisation
Peddi director Buchi Babu Sana has reacted to the backlash the film has been facing for the alleged oversexualisation of Janhvi Kapoor. Buchi Babu Sana wrote on X, “As a filmmaker, I believe cinema should entertain, inspire, and connect with audiences. It should never make anyone feel uncomfortable or disrespected. We have heard the feedback regarding certain scenes in Peddi and have taken it seriously. I have always had immense respect for women, both on and off screen, and it was never our intention to objectify or disrespect any female character.”
He added, “If any part of the film has been perceived that way, we respect those sentiments, understand the concerns being raised, and sincerely apologize. After reviewing the feedback, we have decided to make changes to the concerned portions. Cinema grows through its connection with audiences, and as storytellers, we have a responsibility to be mindful of evolving perspectives and sensitivities.”
“Every woman deserves to be respected, valued, and represented with dignity. We remain committed to telling stories that celebrate strong characters and uphold those values. Thank you to everyone who shared their views honestly and sincerely,” he concluded. The post has gone viral on X and is receiving all kinds of comments.
