Akshay Kumar and Arshad Warsi starrer Jolly LLB 3 received relief from the Bombay High Court after the bench of Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad rejected the plea filed against the film, stating it ridiculed judges and lawyers. With the plea being rejected, the movie will now hit theatres on September 19.
Filed by a lawyer from Jabalpur, the PIL objected to the lyrics of the song Bhai Vakeel Hai. It also claimed that references to “package deals” and “judge ko mamu banana” are an insult to the Indian judiciary.
While appearing in court, the petitioner argued that the movie’s content not only disrespects lawyers but also judges. However, the plea was rejected, and the bench of Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam
Ankhad said, “We have been facing mockery since day one. Don’t worry about us,” while rejecting the plea.
A similar complaint was filed in the Allahabad High Court, but a division bench of Justice Sangeeta Chandra and Justice Brij Raj Singh observed that they found “nothing objectionable” in the song’s lyrics or even in the film’s trailer or teaser. “We did not find any objectionable matter to warrant interference by this Court. We have also gone through the lyrics of the song Bhai Vakeel Hai and we do not find anything which may interfere in the practice of the legal profession by genuine advocates,” the court said.
