Delhi’s Public Works Department (PWD) is reportedly set to launch feasibility studies worth Rs 10 crore for the construction of three new flyovers aimed at decongesting West and Northwest Delhi, according
to officials familiar with the matter.
The projects are part of Delhi’s overall city decongestion plan, particularly the Outer Ring Road, which faces heavy vehicular traffic. They include one to connect Kanjhawala Chowk to Mangolpuri and linking it with the Urban Extension Road-II (UER) project, which has been recently opened for public use, officials told news agency PTI.
The second project will connect the Supplementary Drain starting near Keshopur Depot to the Haiderpur area on Outer Ring Road. The third flyover is being planned from Sagarpur to Mayapuri Chowk.
Kanjhawala Chowk to Mangolpuri
The first project, connecting Kanjhawala Chowk to Mangolpuri on Outer Ring Road, will include three traffic signals located at Kanjhawala Chowk UER-II, Sec-22 Rohini (Begumpur), Y-Block Mangolpuri and Pathar market junction, covering a length of 10 km, as per the project plan.
The cost of the study is estimated to be around Rs 3.4 crore, and a detailed project report has to be submitted to the PWD in six months.
Keshopur Depot To Haiderpur
The second flyover along the Supplementary Drain, starting near Keshopur Depot to Haiderpur, will cover a distance of 17.5 km, and the study is estimated to cost Rs 5.6 crore.
According to tender details, the study will involve a comprehensive survey of the entire area, mapping all buildings, noting encroachments, counting trees, and documenting signage, road features, and other permanent structures within the project zone.
“The study of the intersection also involves a cost-benefit analysis by taking into account the economic, environmental and social costs in implementing the project,” it added.
Officials said the stretch includes several trees, and the consultant will provide the details of the number of trees to be felled and the ones that can be saved through the process of transplantation.
Sagarpur To Mayapuri Chowk
The third flyover from Sagarpur to Mayapuri Chowk will be 4.3 km long. However, tender details show that the stretch is located close to a boundary wall of the Tihar jail complex.
Additionally, a high-tension power line is running across the road stretch where the flyover is being planned. “Approximately 300 trees are on the road, and the Right of Way (ROW) varies along several encroachments on the road. But the studies will clear the picture more,” a PWD official told PTI.
The feasibility study for the project will be conducted at a cost of Rs 1.3 crore and is expected to be completed within six months.
