At the trailer launch of the Hindi version of Dacoit, Adivi Sesh heaped praises on Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar. Interestingly, Dhurandhar 2 is set to clash with Dacoit, co-starring Mrunal Thakur and Anurag
Kashyap on March 19. Addressing the press, Sesh drew comparisons between the 26/11 attacks portrayed in Dhurandhar and Major, where he played Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who was martyred in action in the 2008 Mumbai attacks. In his words, Dhurandhar helped him see the other side of the attacks.
“I even tweeted about Dhurandhar. Aditya sir is a good friend of mine. I had researched so much on the 26/11 attacks and the Black Tornado operation. But to know the Pakistani side of things was a new experience for me. I thought Dhurandhar is an extraordinary film. It thoroughly deserves to be India’s biggest film of the moment. I’m so proud that so many people are watching the film. It’s a proper word-of-mouth hit,” he said.
Much like Yami Gautam Dhar and Shraddha Kapoor, Sesh too lauded the makers for not engaging in corporate and block bookings and glitzy marketing campaigns to promote the film. “People are turning up in genuine numbers. There’s no booking involved. I’m so proud of Aditya’s film and everything that he has achieved. He has an extraordinary value system. I’m planning on watching it for the second time tomorrow with my family,” stated the Goodachari and Evaru actor.
On a related note, a few days back, Sesh took to social media and shared how much he loved Dhurandhar. “Late to the party in watching the country’s biggest film but it’s so well done. It’s an amazing achievement from you Aditya Dhar sir to show so many greys with subtlety. Absolutely international presentation on such a relevant topic. As someone who researched 26/11 so much for Major, it was an entirely new experience for me to see how the ISI’s handlers were empowered by the Lyari underworld. My heart broke and my blood boiled when I saw that (sic),” he wrote.
Sesh further praised the performances of Ranveer Singh, R Madhavan, Akshaye Khanna and Rakesh Bedi. “The extraordinary music, international cinematography, and overall craft made for a memorable experience. I’ll be watching it again soon,” he added. Speaking of war films, Sesh, at the event, revealed that he had been offered a host of war-oriented Hindi films but that he turned them down.
“I had received three war film offers in Bollywood. I went to Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan sir’s parents and told him that his life story is very important to me. I couldn’t keep doing only soldier stories. It would have felt like ‘usage’. It was important that I do just one war film. That’s also why I did Dacoit because it’s a very, very different film. It’s a little more commercial than Major but the passion with which we made both the films is the same,” he stated.
