Will There Be A Season 2 Of Last Samurai Standing? Netflix Reacts

Last Samurai Standing fans are overjoyed with excitement as Netflix renewed the show for a second season. Kokushu the Manslayer, AKA Shujiro Saga, is all set to return to the deadly game called Kodoku.

During an interview with Netflix Tudum, the show’s writer-director Michihito Fujii shared, “I’m honoured to say that the series has officially been greenlit for a second season.”

Last Samurai Standing Season 2 Updates

Netflix confirmed the renewal of the series on Friday in Japan. The confirmation followed earlier reports after Netflix France announced the renewal on December 18. The streaming giant later released a season 2 confirmation post and comments from Michichito Fujii and Junichi Okada.

While talking to the Tudum, Fujii revealed that the upcoming season will be bigger and better than the first one. Talking about Season 2, Okada shared, “I’m excited to get back into this wild world and once again charge into battle with the production team. We hope to make the next season even more energetic and action-packed.”

Last Samurai Standing Plot

Adapted from Ikusagami, a historical novel by Naoki Prize-winning author Shogo Imamura, the series follows Shujiro Saga (played by Junichi Okada), a once unbeaten samurai who steps into the world of Kodoku to save his family.

Alongside Junichi Okada, the series stars Yumia Fujusaki and Kaya Kiyohara in other prominent roles. Talking about the series, Okada, who is also the producer, shared he wanted to “create a new kind of period drama, one that’s also an action drama…made entirely in Japan, but made for the world.”

The first season of the show turned out to be a massive success. It topped Netflix Japan for four consecutive weeks and reached No. 1 on Netflix’s Weekly Global Top 10 for Non-English Series, charting in 88 countries. Last Samurai Standing also became the first all-Japanese production nominated for Best Foreign Language Series at the Critics’ Choice Awards.

What to Expect From Last Samurai Standing Season 2?

The first season ended with only the strongest warriors left alive. Shujiro goes to Tokyo with Futaba Katsuki, a young girl who is also caught in the deadly game. They embark on a journey to Tokyo to find out who is behind Kodoku.

Meanwhile, his adopted siblings plan to reunite and face Gentosai, their former master turned hunter. Fans can look forward to more exciting battles, mysteries, and action in the upcoming season.
