Kara Plot
Set in the early 1990s, Kara follows Karasaami, played by Dhanush, a small-time thief from Ramanathapuram whose life changes after he is caught by DSP Bharathan during a failed robbery. Although he manages to escape, Kara decides to leave crime behind and start afresh with his wife, Selli, by opening a small mess business.
However,
financial hardship soon pulls him back to his village. Kara returns in search of land documents that could help him secure a bank loan. Once home, he reconnects with his estranged family and discovers that his father, Kandhasaami, is trapped under debt after taking a tractor loan.
When the bank threatens to seize their ancestral land, Kandhasaami dies heartbroken. The family is further humiliated when they are denied the right to bury him on their own land. Enraged by the cruelty of corrupt bank manager Muthu Selvan, Kara decides to rob the bank.
With the help of Murugesan and Kasi, Kara begins targeting banks to retrieve money and land documents taken from poor villagers through exploitation. What starts as a personal act of revenge gradually becomes a larger fight against a corrupt system that has ruined several families.
As DSP Bharathan investigates the robberies, Muthu Selvan continues to secretly benefit from the crimes while manipulating both villagers and the police. Kara eventually steals a large amount of money and uses it to help villagers clear their debts and reclaim their land.
Towards the end, Muthu Selvan confesses to his crimes before dying, while Bharathan realises that Kara’s actions were born out of injustice rather than greed. Kara finally fulfils his father’s wish by burying him on their ancestral land and leaves crime behind to embrace farming.
