Nadu Elections 2026: As Tamil Nadu votes on April 23 for its 234 assembly seats, authorities are focusing on ensuring smooth, free, and fair polling across the state. Voters are encouraged to be aware of essential dos and don’ts before heading to polling booths.
What to Do:
- Voters should carry a valid photo ID, preferably the EPIC (Voter ID card), which is mandatory. However, other approved documents like Aadhaar and Pan card can also be carried.
- It is advisable to check polling booth details in advance to avoid last-minute confusion. Reaching early can help avoid long queues, especially in urban constituencies.
- Follow polling staff instructions and maintain discipline inside and outside the booth.
- Voters must ensure they verify their choice on the VVPAT (Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail) after casting their vote on the EVM.
- Senior citizens, persons with disabilities, and pregnant women are entitled to priority voting facilities.
What Not to Do:
- Voters must not carry campaign materials, wear party symbols, or attempt to influence others inside polling premises.
- Use of mobile phones is generally restricted inside voting compartments.
- Bribery, intimidation, or any form of inducement is strictly prohibited and punishable under law.
- Taking photographs or videos inside the polling booth is not allowed.
- Voters should also avoid spreading misinformation or rumours about the voting process, especially on social media.
- Importantly, maintaining peace and order is crucial. Any suspicious activity should be reported immediately to election officials or local authorities.
With several high-stakes contests across the state, authorities have urged citizens to participate responsibly and uphold the democratic process by adhering to these guidelines.
