In Aryan Khan‘s The Ba***ds of Bollywood, Delhi boy Aasmaan gets trapped in a 3-film deal by popular producer Freddy Sodawala. Since the show is full of meta references and self-aware digs at real-life Bollywood instances, film fans on Reddit have found an interesting similarity between Aasmaan and the actress Anya Singh, who plays manager Sanya on the show.
Just like Lakshya’s Aasmaan, Anya Singh was also offered a 3-film deal by Aditya Chopra’s YRF. She made her debut in 2017 with Qaidi Band, opposite Aadar Jain. However, unlike Aasmaan, Anya’s debut was a major box office disaster. Her two subsequent films with YRF never materialised, and her career took a hit.

Anya Singh was born in Delhi;
she met casting director Shanoo Sharma at a cafe, and after a few auditions, she was picked as YRF’s next launch. Shanoo had told Mid-Day, “Adi [Aditya Chopra, producer] always pushes me to go out and find new talent. When casting for this film, we wanted girls from Delhi, Chandigarh, and other cities. Anya was the result of that hunt—the idea was to find someone like Ranveer Singh or Anushka Sharma, who came out of nowhere and conquered the industry. Anya filled that spot for me.”
However, after Anya’s debut film flopped, her next two promised films as the main lead never happened. After her flop debut, she said in an interview, “Yes, Qaidi Band got a lukewarm response… When you make a movie, so many people put in hard work, and when it doesn’t work, it does affect you. You feel bad because it’s like your child.”
Over the years, she was seen in smaller roles in films like Kho Gaye Hum Kahan and Stree 2. She also made waves in the OTT space with projects like Never Kiss Your Best Friend opposite Nakuul Mehta and Kaun Banegi Shikharwati with Lara Dutta, Soha Ali Khan, Kritika Kamra and Naseeruddin Shah. Now, her performance in Aryan Khan’s show has grabbed everyone’s attention.
This led movie buffs to question: Who is the ruthless producer Freddy Sodawala based on? Reddit has some theories. Some eagle-eyed fans spotted a ‘Yash Chopra-like’ portrait in Freddy’s office and likened him to an exaggerated parody of Aditya Chopra. The ‘3-film deal’ was also a dead giveaway, according to some cinema sleuths. Others wondered if the character was based on Sajid Nadiadwala, based on their surnames. However, this is only speculation.
