What was expected to be one of the biggest Malayalam releases of November has taken an unexpected turn. Kalamkaval, led by Mammootty and Vinayakan, was preparing for a grand arrival in theatres on November 27.
But after weeks of speculation around the film’s rollout, the makers finally confirmed that the release has been pushed, asking fans to hold on just a little longer.
Kalamkaval Makers Confirm Delay
Mammootty Kampany announced the postponement on Thursday through its official social media handles, assuring viewers that the team was committed to delivering the film at the right time. The statement read, “Delayed, NOT Diminished. We hear you… The wait is noted. The Venom Beneath Will Arrive Soon !! #Kalamkaval Release Postponed, New Release Date will be Announced Soon !!”

Industry chatter suggests that the delay stems from pending OTT and satellite deal negotiations. However, the team has not issued any confirmation on these reports, nor have they revealed the revised date.
Trailer out
The film’s trailer dropped online recently, giving fans a welcome distraction. The clip quickly gained traction for its slow-burning tension and carefully constructed narrative tone. It opens with a striking line delivered by SJ Ethan — “The venom beneath can’t be suppressed forever.”
The trailer unfolds like a crime documentary, recounting a violent confrontation between two youngsters in Kottayikonam on the Kerala–Tamil Nadu border. What begins as a small clash spirals into a full communal breakdown, forcing the Kerala Police Special Investigation Team to intervene. The narrator hints that investigators uncover “shocking truths far beyond anything they expected.”
The visuals then shift to glimpses of Vinayakan and Jibin Gopinath as officers navigating forests and remote homes while hunting a key suspect. The closing frame, however, belongs unmistakably to Mammootty. Cigarette in hand, he asks with chilling calm, “Do you know what gives the greatest pleasure when you kill it?” That single moment has already led to wild online theories about whether he plays a cop, a criminal, or someone in between.
Mammootty’s Big Project After a Brief Break
Kalamkaval signals Mammootty’s return after a short break for health reasons. The ensemble cast includes Meera Jasmine, Gayathri Arun, Vinayakan, Jibin Gopinath and Biju Pappan.
Directed by debutant Jithin K Jose, who previously contributed the story for Kurup, the film is backed by significant technical talent. The cinematography is handled by Faisal Ali, editing by Praveen Prabhakar, music by Mujeeb Majeed and production design by Shajie Naduvil. The screenplay is co-written by Jithin and Jishnu Sreekumar.
Mammootty Kampany produces the project, while distribution in Kerala is managed by Dulquer Salmaan’s Wayfarer Films. The movie has received a U/A 16+ certification.
The project marks the seventh production venture of Mammootty Kampany. Filming wrapped in November 2024, followed by a series of promotional reveals.
