Following a four-year-long wait, Glen Powell’s debut as Saturday Night Live host finally occurred in the latest episode. To mark the occasion even more special, the Top Gun: Maverick star had a special guest
in the audience.
During his monologue, Powell revealed that he was supposed to host SNL four years ago. When he got the news, he shared it with a UPS driver, but unfortunately, he lost the contract then. Now that he got the chance again, Powell decided to fly in that UPS driver to prove that he was not lying.
Glen Powell Invites UPS Driver On SNL
The Running Man star shared with the audiences that when he first got the news of hosting SNL four years back, he and his family were thrilled by the news. During that time a UPS driver happened to be delivering a package at his house.
“So we all took a selfie with him, and this is the selfie to mark the occasion,” Powell noted. “But then my dream got taken away,” he continued. “Top Gun got delayed because of COVID, so SNL had to take their offer back. Lorne Michaels literally called me and said, ‘Without Top Gun,’ and these are his words, ‘no one will know who the F you are.’”

Glen Powell’s Family Tracks Down The UPS Driver
Powell shared that for the past four years the UPS driver might have thought he lied. So when he got the call from SNL again, he was determined to invite that driver. Powell revealed that his sisters tracked him down and found his name as well as cell number. “So to prove to Mitch (the UPS driver) that I’m not a liar, I flew him all the way to New York… He thought it was a scam, but he still came, and he’s sitting in the audience tonight,” Powell revealed.
The actor then called Mitch on stage, and the two took another selfie together to bring things to a full circle moment. “I had to wait my entire life, plus four years, to be here,” Powell shared. “But if I have learnt anything, it is that the best things in life don’t happen overnight, and no one knows that better than UPS,” he added.
