World No. 1 T20I batter Abhishek Sharma entered his name in the history books on Saturday, December 6, by becoming the first Indian batter to hit 100 sixes in a calendar year in T20s. Abhishek achieved
the feat during the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Elite Group C match played between Punjab and Services in Hyderabad. The left-handed batter from Amritsar, who will join the Indian team in Cuttack now for the five-match T20I series against South Africa, faced 34 balls and, with the help of 8 fours and 3 sixes, scored 62 runs. The second six by Abhishek in Punjab’s sixth group stage match of the ongoing season was his 100th maximum in T20s this year.
He has hammered 47 sixes in 17 T20Is for India this year and slammed 28 maximums in 14 IPL 2025 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the 2025 edition of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Abhishek has smacked 26 sixes in six matches. Overall he has 101 sixes to his name in 37 T20 matches played so far in 2025.
The previous record of hitting the most sixes in a calendar year in T20s by an Indian batter was also in the name of Abhishek.
In 2024, Abhishek smashed 87 sixes in 39 T20 matches for India, and in 2022, Suryakumar Yadav slammed 85 sixes in 41 T20 matches.

The overall record of hitting the most sixes in a calendar year in T20s is in the name of former West Indies skipper and wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran. In 2024, Pooran played 76 matches for eight teams – Durban’s Super Giants, Lucknow Super Giants, MI Emirates, MI New York, Northern Superchargers (Men), Rangpur Riders, Trinbago Knight Riders, and West Indies – and slammed 170 sixes.
Former West Indies batter Chris Gayle was the first player in the world to hit 100 sixes in a calendar year in T20s. He achieved the feat in 2011. That year, Gayle played 31 matches for four teams – Matabeleland Tuskers, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sydney Thunder, and Western Australia – and slammed 101 sixes.
