Pune Weather Updates: After enduring several days of scorching heat and high humidity, Pune received much-needed relief as heavy rain lashed the city on Sunday afternoon. With the southwest monsoon regaining momentum, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for Pune and 23 other districts of Maharashtra, forecasting heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds over the next 48 to 72 hours.
Pune district remains under a yellow alert for the next three days as rainfall activity is expected to intensify.
Active Weather Systems To Boost Rainfall
According to the IMD, a trough extending from coastal Andhra Pradesh to Madhya Maharashtra has become active, while a cyclonic circulation has formed over the east-central Arabian Sea.
These weather
systems have created favourable conditions for widespread rainfall across the state. Rainfall activity is expected to increase across Konkan, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada and Vidarbha over the coming days.
Heavy rain has been forecast for Mumbai, Thane, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts. Meanwhile, yellow alerts have been issued for Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur and Solapur districts.
Heavy Showers Lash Pune
Although Pune remained cloudy on Sunday morning, heavy showers began around 2 pm, bringing relief from the prolonged spell of hot and humid weather.
Several parts of the city, including Shivajinagar, Swargate, Deccan, Kothrud, Katraj, Aundh, Yerwada, Kalyani Nagar and Sinhagad Road, witnessed intense rainfall.
The downpour led to waterlogging on several roads, slowing traffic movement and causing congestion at multiple locations across the city.
Weather Forecast For Pune
On Sunday, Pune recorded a maximum temperature of 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 23.8 degrees Celsius.
For Monday, June 29, the IMD has forecast a maximum temperature of around 33 degrees Celsius and a minimum of about 24 degrees Celsius in Pune and surrounding areas.
The sky is expected to remain mostly clear during the day before turning partly cloudy in the afternoon and evening. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is also likely, with rain activity expected to continue over the next few days under the influence of the active monsoon systems.
