Lucknow, Aug 27 (PTI) The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) has deployed additional buses and staff at major bus stations to manage the rush of passengers during Raksha Bandhan, with women being provided free travel from August 26 to 31 under the state government’s scheme.
According to an official statement Thursday, the corporation has directed that the maximum possible number of buses be operated during the six-day period, particularly on routes witnessing heavy passenger demand, including those connecting Lucknow, Kanpur and other major destinations.
Additional staff and supervisors have been deployed at major bus stations, including Kaisarbagh, Alambagh and Charbagh in Lucknow, Jhakarkati in Kanpur, Bareilly, Moradabad,
Meerut, Agra and several others, the statement said.
All buses have been directed to pick up passengers from designated stops, while regional managers have been asked to continuously monitor demand and immediately deploy additional buses wherever required, it stated.
The corporation has also directed that amid overcrowding, passengers should be facilitated to board buses at intermediate stops and transported to their destinations, it added.
To encourage maximum deployment, drivers and conductors completing 1,800 km of operations between August 26 and 31 will receive an incentive of Rs 1,200. Contractual drivers and conductors will receive an additional 55 paise per kilometre beyond 1,800 km, according to the statement.
The corporation said supervisors would remain present at major stations to ensure smooth operations and passenger convenience.
The arrangements have been made not only for women availing the free travel facility but for all passengers travelling during the festival period, it said. PTI KIS NB NB
