Anthropic is expanding Claude’s Voice Mode with support for additional AI models and connected applications. Users can now choose Opus and Sonnet for voice conversations instead of relying exclusively on the company’s lighter Haiku model.
The update also allows Claude to access supported tools connected to a user’s account. This means spoken requests can be used to retrieve information or perform permitted actions across services such as calendars, Canva, Notion and Slack.
The new capabilities are rolling out as a public beta across Claude’s mobile, desktop and web experiences. Anthropic says Voice Mode remains available across its subscription tiers, including the free plan, although model access and usage limits may differ.
Claude Voice Mode
Gets More Models
Claude’s Voice Mode previously depended primarily on Haiku, which prioritises speed and efficiency. Support for Opus and Sonnet gives users the option to handle longer conversations and requests requiring more reasoning.
Sonnet is positioned as a balance between performance and speed, while Opus is intended for more demanding tasks. Their availability inside Voice Mode may make the feature more useful for planning, research and complex questions that require additional context.
The model options visible to individual users may still depend on their Claude plan and Anthropic’s current usage policies.
Connected Apps Now Work With Voice Commands
The larger change is support for connected tools. Users who have linked compatible services can ask Claude to retrieve information and perform supported actions without typing instructions.
For example, Claude may check a calendar, review upcoming events, work with information from Slack or create content in a connected Notion workspace. Canva and other supported services may also become accessible through voice conversations.
Available actions depend on the permissions granted to Claude and the capabilities provided by the connected service. Users should review a request carefully before allowing the assistant to create or modify information in an external account.
Where the Updated Voice Mode Is Available
Anthropic says the improvements are being introduced on Claude’s mobile apps, desktop application and website. Since the release is a public beta, the complete feature set may not appear for every account immediately.
Voice Mode allows users to speak to Claude, hear its responses and move between voice and text within the same conversation. It also supports web searches when required.
A stable internet connection is recommended because voice recognition, model responses and tool interactions depend on online processing.
What the Update Means for Users
The addition of stronger models moves Voice Mode beyond simple questions and short conversations. Connected tools can also make it useful for everyday productivity, provided users have configured the required integrations.
However, the feature’s usefulness will vary according to subscription limits, regional availability and the services connected to the account. As a beta capability, its behaviour and supported tools may change before a broader stable release.
