The weekend appears to be working in favour of Cocktail 2. After opening to mixed reactions from audiences and critics alike, the romantic drama has managed to gather momentum at the ticket counters, showing encouraging growth on its second day in theatres.
Featuring Shahid Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna and Kriti Sanon in the lead, the film arrived in cinemas on June 19 as a spiritual successor to the 2012 hit Cocktail. While the response to the film has been divided, its box office performance suggests that audiences are still turning up to watch the love triangle unfold on the big screen.
According to trade tracking website Sacnilk, Cocktail 2 earned ₹16.25 crore on Saturday, improving on its opening-day collection of ₹13.50 crore. With the latest
figures added, the film’s total India net collection stands at ₹29.75 crore, while its India gross earnings have reached ₹35.70 crore.
Interestingly, the mixed reviews haven’t significantly impacted the film’s social media buzz. Positive word-of-mouth from a section of viewers appears to be helping the film maintain its pace. All eyes are now on Sunday’s performance, which could push the film towards a ₹50 crore opening weekend.
Directed by Homi Adajania, the film follows Kunal (Shahid Kapoor) and Diya (Rashmika Mandanna), college sweethearts who are deeply in love but remain uncertain about the idea of marriage. During a holiday in Sicily, they cross paths with Ally (Kriti Sanon), Diya’s friend, who persuades them to abandon their original plans and join her instead.
What begins as a carefree getaway soon becomes emotionally complicated. Doubts creep into Diya’s mind as she starts questioning whether Kunal is marrying her out of love or obligation. Hoping to find answers, she asks Ally to test his loyalty by flirting with him, setting off a chain of events that drives the story forward.
The film has been produced by Dinesh Vijan, Luv Ranjan, Pramita R Vijan and Ankur Garg.
Ahead of the film’s release, Kriti Sanon shared a heartfelt message on social media, expressing gratitude to the cast and crew. She wrote, “Need all the love and hugs because Fin-Ally its Cocktail 2 Day!! Ally, Kunal and Diya are yours. I hope you love them, feel their hearts and cherish them as much as we have!! Homi Adajania, I have loved being your Ally. Thank you for trusting me and giving me wings to fly beyond what I thought I could with this one! She’s always gonna be close to my heart.. love you always!”
The actor also thanked her co-stars for the experience, writing, “Shahid Kapoor, Rashmika Mandanna, I’m already missing you guys. Thank you for making this journey so beautiful & giving me the best memories for life!! Love you guys!! Luv Ranjan, I fell in love with the film instantly when you narrated!
