The Indian men’s cricket team was scheduled to tour Bangladesh in August 2025 for a white-ball series featuring three ODIs and three T20Is. However, the tour was deferred to September 2026 following discussions between the two boards — the BCCI and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). In a release issued on July 5, 2025, the BCCI stated that both boards “took into account the international cricketing commitments and scheduling convenience of both teams.”
At the time, the BCCI confirmed that the series would be played in September 2026. However, Bangladesh’s decision to boycott matches in India during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has since strained cricketing relations between the two countries.
Reports suggested that the BCCI might cut off
cricketing ties with Bangladesh and opt not to travel for the white-ball series in 2026.
Despite the tensions, the BCB has expressed hope of hosting India later this year. On Saturday (May 2), BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia provided a key update on the possibility of India’s tour to Bangladesh.
Speaking to reporters in Mumbai after the announcement of India’s squad for the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, Saikia said, “Our home schedule is packed after the IPL. There is a series against Afghanistan, followed by the UK tour. After the UK tour, we’ll consider the remaining part of the season.”
Following the conclusion of IPL 2026 on May 31, India will face Afghanistan in a one-off Test at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh, from June 6 to 10. This will be followed by a three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Chennai between June 14 and 20.
The Men in Blue are then scheduled to travel to the United Kingdom for two T20Is against Ireland in June, followed by five T20Is and three ODIs against England from July 1 to 19. After the white-ball series in England, India will play three T20Is in Zimbabwe from July 23 to 26.
India’s home season will begin with a three-match ODI series and a five-match T20I series against the West Indies from September 27. Prior to that, India are also expected to tour Sri Lanka for an away series.
