The atmosphere in the Indian team couldn’t be better. After a 59-run win over Sri Lanka at Baraspara to kick off their 2025 Women’s World Cup campaign in style, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side showcased
some fun off-field moments during their travels from Guwahati to Colombo.
In a video shared by the BCCI Women’s channel on social media, wicketkeeper Richa Ghosh tried to recreate a popular meme with staff members and other teammates at the airport, with Deepti Sharma behind the camera. It took several takes for Ghosh to get the words exactly right, and her acting got funnier for her teammates by the minute.
Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, batter Harleen Deol, and even coach Amol Mazumdar got involved, trying to help Richa and laughing uncontrollably in the process. Watch it here:
A lot of laughs 😁
A lot of takes 🎬

The same meme — based on a video of a man who goes to a confectionery shop and asks, ‘What’s the price of a Rs. 10 biscuit?’ — was tried by the men’s team’s members too.
How India got off to a winning start in the 2025 World Cup
India overcame a shaky start to beat Sri Lanka by 59 runs (DLS) in their Women’s World Cup opener on Tuesday, thanks to an all-round show from Deepti Sharma and a composed debut from Amanjot Kaur.
Put in to bat, India slipped to 124/6 after a fiery spell from veteran Inoka Ranaweera, who claimed three wickets in five balls. At that stage, Sri Lanka had firm control, but Deepti (53) and debutant Amanjot (57) staged a remarkable 103-run stand off 99 balls. Their partnership, aided by Sri Lanka’s sloppy fielding and missed chances, lifted India to 269/8 in 47 overs. Sneh Rana’s late cameo of 28 off 15 added further momentum.
In reply, Chamari Athapaththu’s aggressive 43 gave Sri Lanka early hope, but Deepti’s clever spin bowling dismissed her at a crucial moment. That breakthrough derailed the chase, with Sri Lanka eventually bowled out for 211 in 45.4 overs. Deepti finished with three wickets, while Sneh Rana and young spinner Shree Charani bagged two each. The win showcased India’s depth despite missing senior pacer Renuka Singh.
The Women in Blue now meet Pakistan on Sunday, and the camaraderie between the squad would bode well for that contest, where media scrutiny will be high and political pressure galore.
