As Chennai gets ready for a big political day at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, the mood outside is a mix of excitement, curiosity, and a bit of nostalgia too. It’s one of those moments where cinema and politics quietly blend together, and familiar faces from the film world show up in real life headlines.
Among the early arrivals was actor Trisha Krishnan, who kept things very low-key but warm as she reached the venue for the oath-taking ceremony of Vijay.

The event is a major step for Vijay’s political journey. His party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), has made a strong debut in the 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, turning into one of the most talked-about new political entries in recent years.
Out of 234 seats, a party needs 118 for a majority. TVK is currently ahead in 108 seats, putting it just short of the mark. But the numbers are still shifting in practical terms. Since Vijay has won from two constituencies—Perambur and Tiruchy East—he will have to vacate one. Also, one MLA will be appointed Speaker, which changes the final strength in the House. Because of this, the party will need support from around 12 more MLAs to comfortably prove its majority.
While the political side of the story unfolds, Vijay’s long-standing connection with Trisha has also been a talking point again, especially with her being seen at such an important event.
The two share a popular on-screen history and were once one of Tamil cinema’s most loved pairs. They worked together in hit films like Ghilli, Thirupaachi, Aathi and Kuruvi. Their chemistry was a big fan favourite back then and often became a topic of discussion off-screen too.
After Kuruvi, they didn’t work together for many years, which naturally led to a lot of rumours in the industry. But both of them always kept things clear, saying they were “just friends.” Years later, their reunion in Leo brought back a wave of excitement among fans.
Vijay’s personal life has also stayed in the spotlight from time to time. He is married to Sangeetha Sornalingam, and the couple has two children, Jason Sanjay and Divya Saasha.
