Nottingham Forest ran riot against Tottenham Hotspurs at the City Grounds on Sunday in the Premier League engagement between the sides, while Aston Villa posted a win at the London Stadium against West Ham.
Callum Hudson-Odoi’s brace and Ibrahim Sangare’s strike gave Forest a 3-0 win over Spurs, while Villa held on to register a 3-2 win over West Ham.
Villa commenced their match at the London Stadium as the in-form team in the league, boasting nine wins in 10 league matches. However, they conceded a goal just 29 seconds into the game when Mateus Fernandes dispossessed Ezri Konsa and scored.
Unai Emery’s team equalised just minutes later when John McGinn’s cross was inadvertently headed into the net by Konstantinos Mavropanos.
Jarrod Bowen restored
the Hammers’ lead midway through the second half, but Villa equalised again early in the second period through Morgan Rogers.
Rogers then put Villa ahead for the first time in the 79th minute, striking a dipping shot from outside the box to secure a 3-2 victory.
The win leaves Emery’s men just one point behind City and five points clear of fourth-placed Chelsea.
Tottenham travelled to Nottingham desperately needing a win after securing just one victory in their past six league matches.
However, Callum Hudson-Odoi scored twice and Ibrahim Sangare netted a superb third goal, increasing the pressure on manager Thomas Frank, who is struggling in his first season at the club.
Sunderland faced Newcastle in the Premier League for the first time in nearly a decade after spending years out of the top division.
Their goal came from an unlikely source when Newcastle forward Woltemade headed Nordi Mukiele’s cross into his own net in the early moments of the second half. The win lifted Sunderland to seventh in the table.
