Reacting to the incident,
Odisha BJP Spokesman Anil Biswal strongly condemned the attack and urged the Tamil Nadu government to take strict action against the perpetrator. Biswal emphasised the need to ensure the safety of migrant workers, calling for immediate justice for Suraj.
The case has drawn attention to the challenges faced by migrant workers from other states, highlighting concerns about their safety and protection while working away from home. No further details about the motive or the identity of the alleged assailants have been released so far.
In a separate incident, a 30-year-old migrant labourer from West Bengal’s Murshidabad was beaten to death by a group of people in Odisha’s Sambalpur district last week. Police arrested six people in connection with the incident.
The victim was identified as Jewel Sheikh, a resident of Chakbahadurpur village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Suti police station. Sheikh had been working in Odisha along with other construction workers from Murshidabad. His family members and co-workers alleged that he was attacked on suspicion of being an illegal Bangladeshi immigrant, a claim denied by Odisha police, who said the accused and the victim were known to each other.
