15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi entered his name in the history books on Sunday (May 17) by breaking the record of hitting most sixes by an Indian batter in an IPL season. Sooryavanshi, who is part of Rajasthan Royals’ IPL 2026 squad, needed three sixes on Sunday against Delhi Capitals in Delhi to go past Abhishek Sharma’s tally of 42 sixes, and he hammered his third six of the night on the sixth ball of the fifth over bowled by Tripurana Vijay.

Sooryavanshi, who is RR’s highest run getter in IPL 2026, now has 43 sixes to his name in 12 matches this year.
In the 2024 edition of IPL, Abhishek played 16 matches for Sunrisers Hyderabad and hammered 42 sixes.
In the list of Indian batters with
most sixes in an IPL season, Sooryavanshi and Abhishek are followed by Shreyas Iyer. Iyer, who captains Punjab Kings in IPL 2026, hammered 39 sixes in 17 matches for the Punjab-based franchise last season (in 2025).

The record of hitting the most sixes in one edition of the IPL is in the name of Chris Gayle. In 2012, Gaye hammered 59 sixes in 15 matches for Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
So far only two batters have scored 50 or more sixes in an IPL season, and it will be interesting to see if Vaibhav joins that elite club this year.
