The FIFA World Cup has begun and fans around the world are excited for the next few weeks. And if you love football, you can be assured that there will be many unforgettable moments both on and off the pitch. But one viral clip making the rounds online has nothing to do with football.
A South Korean reporter reporting live from Mexico suddenly found himself at the centre of internet attention after a Mexican woman walked up and kissed him during a live broadcast. The unexpected moment caught both the journalist and viewers by surprise. In the video, the reporter appears focused on his live segment before the fan approaches and kisses him. His reaction quickly became a talking point online, with many users dissecting his expressions frame by frame.
Some viewers found the moment amusing and wholesome. One user joked, “He was alert at first then shy at second. 🤣🤣🤣🤣” Another commented, “Dude has not gotten a random kiss before by a Korean girl.”
The clip also brought a rare dose of positivity to some social media feeds. “My feed has such cute happy videos for the first time since Musk took over the platform,” wrote one user. Another added, “For the first time my tl is not racism wc can do wonders.”

However, not everyone viewed the incident as harmless fun. Several users pointed out that similar incidents involving female journalists have been treated very differently in the past. One commenter referenced a case from Brazil, writing: “In Brazil, something similar happened with the kiss on the South Korean journalist! In 2022, the ESPN journalist Jéssica Dias was kissed without consent, reported the fan for harassment, and he was arrested in the act.”
Others questioned whether public reactions would have been the same if the genders were reversed. “Aaaaaaa but if it had been the other way around”
Another user echoed the sentiment, saying: “If it was the other way round;assault allegations will be flying by now”
