Hardoi (UP), May 15 (PTI) Two minors drowned in the Ganga river during a Kalash Yatra linked to a Bhagwat Katha event here, police said on Friday.
The incident took place at the Ganga ghat in Nokhepurwa village under the Bilgram police station area when five children were bathing in the river during the religious procession on Thursday.
According to the police, the children were swept away by deep water and strong currents. Villagers present at the spot rescued three girls, Sneha (12), Sonam (11) and Anshi (14).
However, Sandhya (14) and Omji (16), a boy, were swept away in the river.
Circle Officer Satendra Kumar Singh said local divers and police launched a search operation soon after the incident.
Sandhya’s body was recovered late Thursday evening,
while efforts to trace Omji continued through the night with the help of SDRF personnel and divers.
The SDRF team recovered Omji’s body on Friday morning from a spot some distance away from the incident site after several hours of search operations, he added. PTI COR CDN APL APL
