The buzz around Border 2 is only getting louder, and the latest voice to join the chorus is Karan Johar. The filmmaker has given a big thumbs-up to the newly released trailer, calling it a solid mix of
drama, patriotism and emotion and he’s confident the film is headed for a massive opening at the box office.
The trailer of Border 2 dropped on January 15 and quickly sparked conversations across social media. Soon after its release, Karan Johar shared his reaction on Instagram, praising director Anurag Singh and expressing strong faith in the film’s commercial prospects.
Sharing the trailer, Johar wrote, “BORDER2 will open hugely! This trailer has more than done the job! Dramatic, patriotic and emotional. Anurag Singh in top form!”
He didn’t stop there. The filmmaker went on to single out the performances of the cast, highlighting what each actor brings to the table. In his post, Johar added, “Sunny Deol roars with his mega star power! Varun Dhawan has silences that are so strong and communicates powerfully through them. Diljit Dosanjh is majestic and moving. Ahan Shetty has a solid screen presence! Congratulations to Bhushan!”
The trailer itself sets the tone early, opening with Sunny Deol’s character staring down a Pakistani tank without flinching. A powerful speech follows, as his character reminds fellow soldiers that war is ultimately about courage. The story then shifts focus to the next generation of heroes — Varun Dhawan as an army soldier, Diljit Dosanjh as a fighter pilot, and Ahan Shetty as a naval officer. Together, the three prepare to take on the Pakistani armed forces across land, air and sea during the 1971 war.
Rich in patriotic imagery and emotional beats, the trailer has struck a stronger chord than the earlier teaser, which had left many viewers underwhelmed.
Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 is the sequel to J. P. Dutta’s iconic 1997 war film Border. The film is produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, J. P. Dutta and Nidhi Dutta. Along with Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh and Ahan Shetty, the film also features Mona Singh, Sonam Bajwa, Anya Singh and Medha Rana in supporting roles.
Border 2 is slated for a theatrical release on January 23, timed with the Republic Day weekend.
