Three Indian-origin truck drivers have been arrested in connection with a shootout between two rival tow-truck groups in Canada, police said. The incident took place in Brampton, Ontario, late on October 7. Peel Regional Police are still searching for a fourth suspect and have released a video of the shooting as part of their investigation.
The shooting happened at around 10.45 pm local time in a parking lot near McVean Drive and Castlemore Road. According to police, two separate groups got into an altercation that quickly escalated. During the clash, several gunshots were fired.
A senior police officer said one person was injured in the shooting. However, the injuries were not serious and were not considered life-threatening. Emergency services
reached the spot soon after the incident, and the area was secured for investigation.
Police said the incident was part of an ongoing dispute between rival tow-truck groups, a problem that has raised concerns in parts of the Greater Toronto Area.
Arrests after investigation
After several weeks of investigation, police identified three people linked to one of the groups involved. On November 20, officers executed a search warrant at a home in Caledon.
“In the course of the search, investigators located and arrested the suspects,” police said in a statement.
The three arrested men have been identified as Manjot Bhatti, Navjot Bhatti, and Amanjot Bhatti. All three are truck drivers of Indian origin, police confirmed. A fourth suspect, believed to be the person who fired the gun, is still at large and has not been named.
