Amitabh Bachchan’s co-stars from the film industry have often spoken about his unmatched work ethic, humility, and discipline. Adding to these anecdotes, veteran actor Ranjeet recently shared lesser-known details about the superstar’s personal routine during the early days of his career.
In a recent interview, Ranjeet revealed that while shooting for Reshma Aur Shera, Amitabh Bachchan’s second film, the actor used to maintain discipline, even while living in shared accommodation during the shoot.
Writing Letters and Reading the Gita
Speaking to Alpha Neon Studioz, Ranjeet recalled sharing a tent with Amitabh Bachchan and two others during the shoot. “We worked for the first time in Reshma Aur Shera. That was his second film. He had earlier worked in Saat
Hindustani. I was in the same tent as him, with two more people,” he said.
Ranjeet remembered noticing Bachchan’s daily routine and curiosity getting the better of him. “He used to write something every night and recite prayers in the morning. One day, I asked him what he writes at night. He shared that I write letters to my parents every day and read the Gita in the morning. That was his daily routine,” he added.
Reflecting on the commitment actors showed during that time, Ranjeet explained how performers were deeply involved in their craft. According to him, preparation and sincerity mattered more than for Amitabh Bachchan than rushing through scenes.
The Iconic Namak Halaal Scene
The conversation also touched upon the famous Namak Halaal scene where Amitabh Bachchan’s character struggles with English, delivering the memorable dialogue: “Bhairon becomes Baron and Baron becomes Bhairon because their minds are very narrow…”
The veteran actor revealed that Amitabh shot the scene after a lot of preparation and did it in one shot the very next day. “He actually said that he will memorise this properly and do it tomorrow. He came the next day and the first shot was okay, there was no cut. This is the kind of work that used to happen. We started shooting and he went to his makeup room after a while. Then, we got the news that the shoot has been packed up for the day,” he shared, highlighting the actor’s dedication.
Interestingly, Ranjeet also shared a hilarious incident where he wore a wig while entering the scene but not in the following shots, something viewers can still spot in the film.
“Every actor used to get involved in the scene during that time, they were obsessed. Shooting happened on the first day and if you have seen the film, I was wearing a wig in that scene. But, when the second shot was completed, there’s no wig, I only wore it while entering,” Ranjeet shared.
Ranjeet and Amitabh Bachchan’s On-Screen Partnership
The veteran actors went on to share screen space in several successful films over the years, including Muqaddar Ka Sikandar, Namak Halaal, Laawaris, Suhaag, and Yaarana.
