Gurugram Traffic Police issue 19,239 challans, impose Rs 1.63 cr fine in a week

Gurugram, Sep 7 (PTI) Gurugram Traffic Police issued 19,239 challans and imposed fines totalling over Rs 1.63 crore during a week-long special enforcement drive, officials said on Monday.

The drive, conducted from August 31 to September 6, focused on traffic violations, particularly lane discipline and overspeeding on NH-48 and the Dwarka Expressway, police said.

Of the total challans, 10,534 were issued through field enforcement and 8,705 through cameras, according to police.

The field-enforcement challans included 897 for wrong-side driving, 816 for pillion riders without helmets, 772 for drivers without helmets, 743 for wrong parking, 309 for driving without seat belts, 216 for drunk driving, 137 for dangerous U-turns, 132 for triple riding,

23 for using mobile phones while driving and 1,626 for lane violations, among others.

Camera-based enforcement included 3,462 challans for lane violations, 3,550 for no-entry violations, 375 for overspeeding, 438 for drivers without seat belts, 473 for pollution-related violations, 156 for drivers without helmets and 140 for pillion riders without helmets, among others.

A total fine of Rs 1,63,74,400 was imposed during the drive, police said.

“With the objective of maintaining road discipline and curbing road accidents, Gurugram Traffic Police is keeping special surveillance on NH-48, Dwarka Expressway and Mumbai Expressway. During this period, continuous challan action was taken against vehicle drivers violating lane discipline and overspeeding with the assistance of NHAI cameras and drone technology,” a senior traffic police officer said.

As part of the #ChallanNahiSalamMilega campaign, awareness programmes were conducted at 12 locations through the Suraksha Rath, sensitising more than 310 citizens and students about traffic rules, Dial 112 and helpline number 1095.

Citizens were encouraged to follow road-safety practices such as driving in designated lanes, avoiding wrong-side driving, adhering to speed limits, not using mobile phones while driving, wearing helmets and not driving under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances, the officer said.
