The Indian Premier League (IPL)’s 2026 season reached 1,000 sixes on Sunday (May 10) in the nail-biting clash between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk. This was just the 53rd match of the season — making it the first time in IPL history that 1,000 sixes were hit in under 55 matches in the season, breaking the record.
The previous fewest matches taken for 1,000 sixes in an IPL season was in 2024 — in 57 encounters.

The 2026 milestone was reached amid a special knock from Urvil Patel. The right-handed wicketkeeper from Gujarat smacked LSG’s spinner Digvesh Rathi for three maximums and a boundary in four balls.
The final six of those
was tonked over deep mid-wicket, going 98 metres deep into the fence — which was the milestone hit. A total of 27 sixes were hit in the CSK-LSG game, with Josh Inglis collecting six of them in the first innings during another record-breaking knock, and Urvil followed up with eight of his own.
Urvil hit six maximums in his first eight balls, an IPL record, to be at 42* after 10 balls, another IPL record. Ultimately, CSK ended up chasing the 204-run target in the 20th over, fittingly concluding with two consecutive sixes from Shivam Dube.
CSK beat LSG by 5 wickets
Inglis had set the tone in the first innings with a stunning 85 off 33 balls after LSG stormed to 77 without loss in five overs. However, Jamie Overton’s double strike — removing Inglis and Rishabh Pant in the same over — shifted momentum dramatically in CSK’s favour.
Noor Ahmad and the fielders also tightened the screws in the middle overs, restricting LSG despite a late push from Shahbaz Ahmed, before CSK completed another memorable chase at home.
CSK raced to 91/1 in the first six overs during the chase, the highest powerplay total by the franchise in IPL history, as Urvil’s breathtaking assault completely dismantled the LSG attack. There was a bit of a wobble after the 27-year-old got out, but Dube and Prashant Veer professionally finished it off.
