The Boys, which revolves around a team of superpowered but corrupt and self-serving individuals, is one of Prime Video’s biggest hits. Based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic book of the same name, the satirical superhero show premiered in 2019. Given its immense popularity, a spin-off of the show, titled Gen V, was also announced.
Set in the same Vought International universe, the series premiered in 2023. It also earned the same love and attention as the original series. It was renewed for a second season that year. In September this year, the new season was released, with new episodes airing through October 22. Now that season 2 of Gen V has recently ended, one question remains. How are the two shows connected?
How Is The Story Of
The Boys And Gen V Connected?
Gen V season 1 takes place right after the events of The Boys season 3 but before season 4, whereas the latest season of the show is set between the original series’ seasons 4 and 5. The spin-off show follows the story of Marie Moreau, an ambitious 18-year-old superhero who can manipulate, and other young superheroes training at Godolkin University, the academy where future members of The Seven are groomed. But things take a dark turn when it is revealed that the scientists at the university had been developing a virus capable of killing superheroes.
In Gen V season 1 finale, Homelander, the extremely powerful leader of The Seven in the OG series, attacks Marie and her friends, who are then captured in a mysterious facility. The Boys season 4, on the other hand, begins with the Butcher, the leader of The Boys and someone who mistrusts all superpowered individuals, discovering the supe-killing virus introduced in Gen V season 1. He then kills Victoria Neuman, a superpowered assassin disguised as a congresswoman. Butcher also keeps the only remaining vial of the virus with him.
Victoria’s daughter connects the two series when she is sent to the Red River Institute, where Marie grew up. Gen V season 2 also features cameos from Starlight and The Deep.
Eric Kripke Explains How Gen V Season 2 Is Connected To The Boys Season 5
The last episode of Gen V season 2 sets the stage for The Boys season 5. In the finale, Marie, Jordan, Emma, and Andre team up to join Starlight’s resistance against Homelander and Vought. The show’s creator, Eric Kripke, told The Hollywood Reporter, “They are playing an important part. Part of the fun of wrapping out season two that way is that we really get to set the table for season five, where there’s now this active and growing resistance led by Starlight that A-Train is an important part of. They’re really trying to take the fight back to Homelander and this sort of fascist government.”
The show’s creator also confirmed that Gen V will continue even after The Boys concludes its fifth season, scheduled for 2026. He said, “We don’t play it in season five of The Boys that this is the end of Gen V. We leave them open-ended because we actually have more Gen V story to tell, and we’d love to tell it.”
