Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday highlighted a new cultural trend among India’s youth, saying young people are increasingly weaving devotion into their everyday lives through innovative expressions of faith.
Speaking during his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, the Prime Minister said today’s generation is achieving something remarkable by integrating spirituality into modern lifestyles.
He pointed to a growing phenomenon, widely referred to as “bhajan clubbing,” where large groups of young people gather in cities across the country to sing devotional songs in a community setting.
“These days, many such videos are visible on social media,” PM Modi said, noting that the trend has gained particular popularity among Gen Z.
He added that it
was heartening to see that even in these modern formats, the dignity and sanctity of bhajans are being preserved.
According to the Prime Minister, the movement reflects a deeper shift in how young Indians are engaging with faith while staying rooted in tradition.
During the broadcast, PM Modi also spoke on a range of other themes, including civic participation and youth-led development.
Marking National Voters’ Day on January 25, he reiterated his call to celebrate a young person’s first experience of voting with the same enthusiasm as a birthday.
Such community celebrations, he said, would strengthen democratic awareness and reinforce the importance of being an active voter.
National Voters’ Day marks the founding of the Election Commission of India in 1950 and is observed each year to encourage citizens to take part in the electoral process.
The Prime Minister further reflected on India’s transformation over the past decade, particularly in the start-up sector.
Recalling initiatives launched in 2016 to empower young Indians, Modi said the country has since grown into the world’s third-largest start-up ecosystem.
He highlighted the presence of Indian start-ups in advanced sectors such as artificial intelligence, space technology, nuclear energy, semiconductors, green hydrogen and biotechnology.
Praising young entrepreneurs and aspiring founders, PM Modi said their innovation and ambition are reshaping India’s economy and strengthening the country’s position on the global stage.
